Chery Unveils Plans to Launch 19 New Hybrids in 2025 – Tynan Chery Wollongong Gears Up for the Future banner

Chery, one of China’s largest automotive brands, is taking a major step toward a greener future by announcing the launch of 19 new hybrid models globally in 2025. This bold move is part of Chery’s commitment to offering more fuel-efficient vehicles across international markets — including Australia.

At Tynan Chery Wollongong, we’re excited about what this means for our customers. With the rising demand for hybrid and plug-in hybrid vehicles (PHEVs), Chery’s new lineup is perfectly timed to meet Australian drivers’ evolving needs.

What’s Coming? A Hybrid-Powered Tiggo Lineup and More

Chery’s new hybrid models will include a mix of traditional series-hybrids, plug-in hybrids (PHEVs), and extended-range electric vehicles (EREVs). Interestingly, the brand has chosen not to focus on fully battery-electric vehicles in this latest wave, instead spotlighting advanced hybrid systems that deliver power, range, and efficiency.

Among the standout models are the upcoming Tiggo 7, Tiggo 8, and Tiggo 9 SUVs, which will be unveiled at the Shanghai Motor Show. Chery Australia has already confirmed that the Tiggo 7 Pro PHEV and Tiggo 8 Pro PHEV will be among the first electrified offerings in the local market.

These new PHEVs are expected to offer:

  • A hybrid-specific 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine
  • Direct Hybrid Transmission (DHT) with integrated electric motor
  • Up to 240kW of power and 545Nm of torque
  • An electric driving range of up to 80km with a 19.27kWh battery

Introducing the Chery Super Hybrid System

Building on its hybrid innovation, Chery’s Super Hybrid System (CSH) will also power select models in 2025. This includes:

  • A 2.0-litre turbocharged engine paired with two DHT options
  • Power outputs ranging from 230kW to 280kW
  • A refined driving experience that balances performance with fuel efficiency

The Super Hybrid System will also underpin Chery’s luxury offshoot Jaecoo J7, which can produce up to 255kW from a 1.5-litre engine.

Hybrid Options for Every Driver – Including the Tiggo 4 Pro

Chery has confirmed that even its most compact SUV, the Tiggo 4 Pro, will receive a hybrid powertrain by mid-2025. This means that whether you're looking for an affordable entry-level SUV or a premium family-size option, Chery’s new hybrid range will have something for you.

According to Chery Australia COO Lucas Harris, every upcoming Chery nameplate will offer a mix of powertrain options — giving Australian drivers more choice than ever before.

Hybrid Sales Surging in Australia

As EV sales decline, Australia is experiencing a surge in hybrid demand. Traditional hybrid sales are up by 35%, while PHEV sales have skyrocketed over 280% in early 2025. These trends perfectly position Chery’s new lineup to thrive in the Australian market.
